Crossness Pumping Station opened in 1865 as part of Sir Joseph Bazalgette's revolutionary sewer system, helping transform public health across London. Today it has been beautifully restored and welcomes visitors throughout the year.
Often described as the "Cathedral of Sewage", its spectacular cast-iron interiors, enormous beam engines and intricate decorative ironwork make it unlike anywhere else in London.
Whether you're interested in history, engineering, architecture or photography, Crossness is well worth a visit.
